“We love to order Starkey hearing aids for patients who are interested in custom devices. Starkey makes an amazing rechargeable custom hearing device. A custom hearing aid is when we take a mold of your ear and send that off so that the manufacturer can build a device that is entirely housed in your ear (nothing behind the ear).
Custom hearing aids are great for people who have several things behind their ear already (glasses, oxygen, masks) and don’t want the hassle of an over the ear device. Also, sometimes they are easier for patients to put on and off as there is only one part to insert instead of 2 (over the ear and in the ear).
Depending on the patient’s ear canal and hearing loss, these devices may also be made to be very small. Although by making a smaller device, the patient will have to give up rechargeability and connectivity to smart phones.
