In August 2026, ReSound introduced Sensia, a new family of hearing aids built on its latest AI platform. Designed to help wearers follow conversations in background noise, Sensia automatically adjusts its sound processing as the listening environment changes.

New technology can look impressive on paper. For us, the real test is whether our patients notice a meaningful difference in everyday life.

That’s why we invited a small group of our long-standing patients to try Sensia and share their honest opinions. All were already wearing hearing aids of a similar age and technology level. We wanted to understand what felt clearer, what felt familiar and where the new technology made a difference.

In this review, we’ll explain what’s new about ReSound Sensia, share our patients’ feedback and explore what their experiences tell us about its performance.

What is new about ReSound Sensia

One of Sensia’s key developments is how it recognizes a listening situation and decides which features to activate.

Its AcoustIQ system assesses the surrounding sound and coordinates the hearing aids’ response. On the Sensia 9 microRIE, the new Intelligent All-Around programme brings together environmental detection, four-microphone directionality and AI-powered noise reduction. This particular combination is specific to that model and technology level.

In practical terms, the system is designed to recognise when additional support is needed, focus on speech in front of the wearer and reduce competing sound. The speech-in-noise processing can engage automatically, without the wearer having to select a separate programme.

ReSound’s stated aim is to help wearers follow the person they are facing, even when other voices and background noise are present. That is the intended benefit of the technology; our patient feedback gives a more personal picture of how Sensia felt in use.

Clearer speech in everyday situations

Speech clarity was one of the most consistent themes in our patients’ comments.

For Hank, Sensia made a noticeable difference across several familiar situations, including conversations with his wife and watching television.

“Clarity under all circumstances was the biggest difference for me. The sound felt more natural, and I could hear my wife more easily in restaurants and while sitting behind her in the car. I could even watch television at volume 17–20 instead of turning it up to 30.”

— Hank W.

Hank’s feedback describes benefits across different settings, rather than one isolated improvement. He noticed a more natural sound, easier conversations and less need to turn up the television.

His television volume settings are a personal reference point rather than a standard measure of hearing-aid performance, but they offer a concrete example of the difference he experienced at home.

Linda also noticed clearer speech when she first put Sensia on.

“When I first put them on, I immediately noticed how clear they sounded. Speech seemed crisper and easier to understand, and while walking through the mall I could hear the people around me. They were also smaller and comfortable to wear.”

— Linda E.

For Linda, the immediate impression was of crisper speech and greater access to the sounds around her. Comfort also formed part of her positive experience.

Hearing conversations in background noise

Restaurants featured in several patients’ accounts, making them a useful point of comparison within the feedback.

Larry identified background-noise suppression as Sensia’s greatest strength.

“Background-noise suppression was the biggest strength. In a very noisy restaurant, they removed a great deal of the background noise without losing the voice of the person across the table. The Noise Filter also reduced road noise considerably.”

— Larry L.

The most useful detail in Larry’s account is that the voice across the table remained audible while the surrounding noise was reduced. His experience was about being able to follow the conversation, as well as finding the environment less noisy.

He also reported a reduction in road noise, suggesting that he noticed benefits beyond the restaurant setting.

These observations are consistent with Sensia’s focus on supporting speech in noise. However, the feedback alone cannot tell us which processing feature produced each benefit or how another wearer would experience the same situation.

How much difference did patients notice?

The feedback was not uniformly enthusiastic, and that matters when assessing a new hearing aid.

Tom noticed some improvement in clarity and found Sensia worked well in a restaurant, but his overall assessment was more measured.

“They were slightly clearer than my existing hearing aids and worked well in a restaurant environment. However, the overall sound quality was fairly similar to what I already had.”

— Tom H.

For Tom, the difference was more subtle than it was for Hank or Linda. He recognised a benefit without describing a substantial change in overall sound quality.

His comments provide useful balance. Within this small group, the same new technology produced different impressions. A noticeable improvement for one patient was a smaller step for another.

Size and comfort

Sound quality was the main focus of the feedback, but Linda also highlighted Sensia’s size and comfort.

She described the hearing aids as smaller and comfortable to wear. That is a positive observation from her experience, although the feedback does not provide enough detail to draw a broader conclusion about comfort across the group.

It is also worth keeping the model distinction clear when discussing the range: Sensia comes in several styles, and the Intelligent All-Around feature described above is available specifically on the Sensia 9 microRIE. Features should therefore be considered in relation to the particular device being reviewed.

Our overall assessment

The strongest themes in our patients’ feedback were clearer speech and improved listening in background noise. Individual patients also described more natural sound, comfortable wear and easier television listening.

The automatic coordination of environmental detection, directionality and AI noise reduction is a notable development on the Sensia 9 microRIE. Several patients reported practical benefits in situations that mattered to them, particularly conversations in restaurants.

There are limits to what we can conclude. These accounts came from a small group of patients sharing personal experiences, rather than a controlled comparison. They show what those patients noticed, but they do not establish how much improvement every wearer should expect.

Our review is encouraging, with useful variation in the responses. For some patients, Sensia brought a clear improvement to everyday listening. For another, it offered a modest increase in clarity alongside a familiar overall sound. Both experiences belong in an honest assessment of the new technology.
